Booking a Christmas dinner in Granada works differently from booking one at home, because the big night is not the 25th. Spanish families sit down on 24 December, so the restaurants that do open that evening often run shorter services and, on some dates, a single set menu in place of the carta.
The dates help you in 2026: Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve fall on a Thursday, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day on a Friday, so no restaurant below has its weekly closing day on any of them. Chikito rests on Wednesdays, and Mirador de Morayma on Sundays and Mondays, which only hits you on the days in between.
Which Granada restaurant can I count on at Christmas? Maese Pío is the one stated plainly: open every day at Christmas, shut on 1 January, with rice dishes and a central location off Gran Vía. For a view, book Carmen de Aben Humeya or Estrellas de San Nicolás in the Albaicín, and phone to confirm the exact holiday service.
Your best table for each Christmas date
Granada has one hard date, 1 January, and one busy one, 24 December. Christmas Day is easier than visitors fear, as long as you plan a long lunch and not a late dinner. Monuments are closed on the 25th and the 1st, so a table is the day’s main plan rather than a side note.
Phone numbers matter here: Maese Pío is on 958 275 737, Carmen de San Miguel on 958 226 723, Chikito on 958 223 364 and Garnata on 958 217 110. Staff at the bigger houses take email bookings too, and Carmen de Aben Humeya answers on WhatsApp on +34 639 120 562.
Where to get Alhambra views at Christmas dinner
The two Albaicín tables with full Alhambra views are Carmen de Aben Humeya, where every table faces it, and Estrellas de San Nicolás, just under the viewpoint. Both are romantic rather than family choices: Aben Humeya says outright that children tend to get bored, and offers highchairs but nothing else for them.
Aben Humeya serves 13:00 to 15:00 and 20:00 to 22:00, with lamb tagine at 31.25 euros and venison with figs at 32.25. Estrellas has two set dinners for two, 135 and 170 euros, including wine from arrival to dessert; à la carte, the room and terrace with total views add 10% to every price. Ask whether the set dinners run on 24 and 31 December.
English menus, allergies and what gets added to the bill
Reading the menu is rarely the problem at the places below. Carmen de San Miguel and Aben Humeya post an English version of their menus, Estrellas prints both languages side by side, and Chikito’s runs in Spanish, English and French. Bread is the surprise: every one of them lists it as a separate charge per person.
Bread is 1.45 euros at Chikito, 2 euros at Aben Humeya and Ruta del Azafrán, and 2.30 at Estrellas. Terrace seating adds 10% at Ruta del Azafrán, on the Paseo del Padre Manjón, where rice is priced per person at 24 or 25 euros with a limit of two types per table. Vegans should note Aben Humeya’s baked ribs at 28.25 euros. Estrellas prices its lamb at 26.50 euros, and Chikito’s fillet with raisins and almonds is 33.50.
Where to eat on the night of the Alhambra visit
The Nasrid Palaces night visits on Saturday 26 December and Saturday 2 January end at 21:30, and Carmen de Aben Humeya’s kitchen stops at 22:00. Garnata, in a hotel on the Paseo del Generalife, takes bookings until 23:00 and sits 25 metres from the C30 and C32 stop. It removes the need to cross town after your Alhambra night visit.
If you would rather eat tapas than sit through a menu
You can skip the formal meal altogether. Calle Navas is the classic street, with bars closing at 2:00 from Sunday to Thursday and at 3:00 before holidays; read how to choose a bar on Calle Navas and how the tapa that comes with your drink works. On 25 December and 1 January expect fewer open doors, so keep a booked table as backup.
What to choose, and what you might not like
The right table depends on who is with you more than on the food: views for a special dinner, a flat walk for older relatives, rice if anyone in the group dislikes long menus. Here is the trade-off at each house, including the drawback most likely to matter, before you spend time on the phone.
| Restaurant | Best for | Order | Drawback |
|---|---|---|---|
| Maese Pío | families, no hills | black rice with cuttlefish | central, no views |
| Chikito | older relatives, classic food | oxtail | steak runs to 40.90 euros |
| Carmen de Aben Humeya | couples | venison with figs | steps, no car, dull for children |
| Estrellas de San Nicolás | a big celebration | set dinner for two | 10% more in the best room |
| Garnata | night at the Alhambra | ask for the menu on booking | away from the old town |
Getting to these restaurants without a car
The Albaicín is closed to private cars, and Aben Humeya’s street has steps at both ends. The C31 or C32 minibus stops 47 metres from it and 61 metres from Estrellas, a single costs 1.60 euros, and for the way back a taxi to the Aljibe de las Tomasas is simplest. Maese Pío and Chikito are flat walks from the centre.
For 31 December, see the gala and the free square compared. Book Christmas Eve first; everything else can wait a week.
After lunch: Christmas concerts in Granada and Granada at Christmas for couples.
For something different before the festive rush, Winstub Granada’s Alsatian food tasting costs 5 euros on 13 November.
Frequently asked questions about where to eat in Granada at Christmas
Are restaurants open on Christmas Day in Granada?
Some are, mostly for lunch. Maese Pío opens every day at Christmas and keeps Friday hours of 13:00 to 16:00. Carmen de San Miguel served only lunch from a set menu on 25 December in its 2023 season. For anywhere else, call ahead, because a normal Friday timetable does not guarantee a holiday service.
When do people eat Christmas dinner in Spain?
The main family meal is on the night of 24 December, called Nochebuena, with a second big meal at lunchtime on the 25th. That is why the 24th is the hardest table to find. In Granada, kitchens on a normal evening run to around 22:00 to 23:30, so a 20:00 table is early.
Do Granada restaurants have vegetarian or vegan Christmas options?
Carmen de Aben Humeya lists baked vegan ribs at 28.25 euros on its regular menu, with the same price in its English version. Holiday set menus are stricter, because Carmen de San Miguel served only one set menu on festive days in 2023, so ask when you book.
How much does New Year’s Eve dinner cost in Granada?
The Barceló Granada Congress gala costs 230 euros per adult and 80 euros per child, with dinner from 20:30 and a party until 3:30. Carmen de San Miguel served a gala with cava and grapes in 2025, and this year’s price is given on booking.
